What this tool does
Spain has four climate zones: Atlantic green (Galicia, Asturias, Basque Country), Mediterranean coast (Catalonia to Málaga), interior continental (Madrid, Castilla, Aragón), and the Canary Islands (subtropical). Choosing the wrong region in the wrong month is the biggest planning mistake.
This tool ranks regions based on month + activity.
The four climate profiles
- Atlantic (Galicia, Asturias, Basque): Mild summers (22–26°C), cool wet winters. Rain year-round. Best June–September for hiking. Beach water always cool.
- Mediterranean (Catalonia to Málaga): Hot dry summers (28–36°C), mild winters (10–18°C). Crowded June–August. Best April–May, September–October.
- Continental (Madrid, Castilla): Extreme — hot summers (35–42°C), cold winters (0–10°C, sometimes snow). Best April–May, October.
- Canary Islands: Year-round 20–28°C. Trade winds. Best for winter escape.
